Trauma & Adversity

Module Overview

Children’s behaviour, learning and relationships do not exist in isolation. Stress, adversity and trauma often shape how children experience the world in ways that are not always visible, predictable or easily understood within educational settings.

This module supports education professionals to develop a deeper, evidence-informed understanding of how trauma and adversity influence child development, regulation and lived experience. Drawing on neuroscience, psychology and education research, the module helps staff move beyond labels and surface-level interpretations, towards curiosity, compassion and relational safety.

Across a series of short seminars, reflective activities and applied tasks, learners explore how stress systems develop, how repeated adversity can shape behaviour and meaning-making, and how protective relationships and environments can buffer risk. The emphasis throughout is on translating understanding into practice and culture, supporting safer, more responsive learning environments.

This module is designed to fit around busy professional roles. Learning is broken into short, focused sections that can be completed in manageable time blocks, making it easier to engage consistently without overload.

Rather than long lectures, content is delivered through bite-sized seminars, reflective prompts and interactive activities that support understanding without requiring specialist prior knowledge. Concepts are introduced gradually and revisited across the module to help learning settle and connect.

Throughout the module, learners are encouraged to pause, reflect and apply ideas to their own context. Interactive elements such as polls, quizzes and shared reflection activities help bring the content to life and support deeper engagement.

Codevelo — Module Pricing

What's the investment?

Our pricing is designed to be fair and accessible. We work with a wonderful team of practitioners who contribute to our learning content and wider teaching team.

Our pricing is deliberate. It's set by the size of your provision — not by the number of staff who benefit. Why? To ensure this training doesn't become a specific skill set mastered only by inclusion teams and on-call staff. Our courses are for everyone, to reflect on, to act upon, and to embed into a whole school culture.

New for 2026

The Inclusive Mainstream Fund

The Department for Education's new Inclusive Mainstream Fund (IMF) provides every mainstream state-funded school in England with direct funding to embed inclusive practice, arriving in school budgets from July 2026.

Schools have full autonomy over how it's spent — and the DfE's guidance explicitly identifies CPD, staff training, whole-school approaches to behaviour and culture, and securing specialist external expertise as legitimate uses. With schools also required to publish an inclusion strategy by December 2026, a Codevelo partnership is a purposeful, well-evidenced way to put that funding to work.

The IMF is available to mainstream state-funded schools, academies, free schools, and 16–19 providers in England. Independent schools, special schools, and alternative provision are not eligible.
